🤝 Committee of Friends Contribution

The problem

WhatsApp group chaos vs. MamaSave CoFC.

The contribution always happens. What changes is whether anybody can prove what came in and where it went.

Screenshots as proof

WhatsApp group

✕ Transfer receipts scattered across a chat thread — nobody has the real total.

MamaSave CoFC

One running total on the event page, updated the moment money lands.

One person holding cash

WhatsApp group

✕ Money sits in a personal account with no visibility and awkward questions.

MamaSave CoFC

A dedicated deposit account for the event — never the organiser's wallet.

Disputes at the end

WhatsApp group

✕ Who paid, who didn't, and where the balance went — argued after the event.

MamaSave CoFC

A public ledger with contributor names, amounts and timestamps.

How it works

From idea to payout in four steps.

  1. 1Create

    Create the event

Set the title, purpose (wedding, funeral, school fees, medical or other), the story, target amount, minimum contribution, and the open and close dates.

  2. 2Name

    Name beneficiaries and a co-signer

Say exactly who the money is for, and who must approve the release. Both are locked onto the event and visible to every contributor.

  3. 3Share

    Share the link

The event gets a dedicated deposit account and a share code. Contributors pay by card, bank transfer or USSD — no account needed.

  4. 4Pay out

    Close and pay out

A 48-hour hold runs after close, the co-signer approves by SMS link + OTP, and funds move to the named beneficiaries.

Trust and control

The money is never one person's to move.

Dedicated event deposit account

Every event gets its own deposit account. Contributions never sit in the organiser's personal wallet.

Named beneficiaries, locked

Who the money is for is fixed on the event and visible to every contributor before they pay.

Co-signer approval

No release happens without the named co-signer approving through an SMS link and a one-time password.

Live public ledger

Raised versus target, the contributor list and timestamps — visible to everyone with the link.

Full audit trail

Every change to an event — dates, target, beneficiaries — is recorded and time-stamped.

Cooperative-held funds

Funds are received by MamaSave Eliozu Multipurpose Co-operative Society Limited (MamaSave Cooperative Ltd) and forwarded to the named beneficiaries. Pearl Systems Ltd provides the technology.

For contributors

No account needed to give.

Contributors never sign up. They open the link, pay, and get a receipt.

No signup, no download

Open the link, enter an amount and a name, pay. That's the whole flow.

Card, transfer or USSD

Pay by card through the Paystack modal, bank transfer to the event account, or tap-to-dial USSD.

Named or anonymous

Give under your name or anonymously. The organiser sets the minimum contribution.

Instant receipt

You get a receipt immediately, plus a link to the Contributor Terms.

Fees

One percent, always capped.

A one-off setup fee per event (currently ₦0, admin-set) and a capped platform fee deducted from the pool at payout — never charged to individual contributors.

TierPool sizeRateCap
Tier 1₦0 – ₦1,000,0001.00%₦5,000
Tier 2₦1,000,001 – ₦5,000,0001.00%₦10,000
Tier 3Above ₦5,000,000 (max ₦50,000,000)1.00%₦20,000

💡 Worked example

₦5,000,000 raised, less the ₦10,000 capped platform fee = ₦4,990,000 paid to the named beneficiaries.

What is deducted, and when

The platform fee is deducted once, from the pool, at the point of payout. Nothing is added on top of a contributor's payment, and there are no monthly or maintenance charges on an event.

Lifecycle

Every event follows the same states.

Draft → Active → Closed → Paid out

An event can also be Cancelled at any point before payout. The current state is shown on the public event page.

48-hour payout hold

After close, funds are held for 48 hours so any regulatory issue can be raised before release.

Dormancy after 7 quiet days

Seven days with zero contributions: draft events expire, active events go dormant, and the dedicated deposit account is released.

Under-target events

The organiser chooses: extend the close date, close and pay out what was raised, or cancel the event.

Use cases

What people actually raise for.

Lagos wedding

60 friends contribute over 14 days; the couple are named as the beneficiaries on the event.

Enugu burial

A family committee raises funeral costs, and the eldest son co-signs the release.

School fees rescue

Colleagues pool for a member's children, with the school named as the beneficiary.

Medical emergency

A hospital bill event closes within 72 hours and pays out the same week.
